Anthony Ausgang

His brilliantly colored, superficially cheery creatures create a bottom line of wackiness from which ever-larger heights of lunacy are possible.

Ausgang's characters are metaphors for the nonplused people we meet everyday, and parables for the kinds of situations in which these people find themselves mired.

Unlike Saturday morning cartoons, Ausgang's paintings are ambiguous: the narratives are left open-ended for the viewer's interpretation.

Ausgang has a refreshing, egalitarian, non-precious approach to the art world. He seeks to de-romanticize the creative act. In his ATM show at a LA café, $40 bought an original Ausgang. "I wanted to make art that was easy for people to own."

All Ausgang works are hand painted. Having recently discovered the round canvas, Ausgang uses the computer to "put a spin" on his pencil drawings prior to transference to the canvas. "I have no idea what its going to look like, so that's like the chaos factor - directions I didn't know I was going in."

Album cover credits include Sony Music's Branford Marsalis: Buckshot Le Fonque and Bomp Record's Sympathy for the Record.

Ausgang exhibits his art all over the country in galleries from NYC to LA. He was included in Kustom Kulture, a major museum show of very important artists.

Ausgang is a hot topic in pop and art magazines including Your Flesh, Juxtapose, Art? Alternative and International Tattoo Art.
